Three American university students, 5 weeks in Senegal May 2011, a course on respected titles in the French African tradition (mostly Senegalese) from Cheikh Hamidou Kane's L'Aventure ambiguë to Aminata Sow Fall's Douceurs du bercail, and an assignment to see what's going on more recently by browsing Dakar's two main bookstores, Librairie les Quatre Vents and Clairafrique. The books they chose to review? : Nafissatou Dia Diouf's Cirque de Missira (Présence Africaine, 2010), Nafissatou Niang Diallo's De Tilène au Plateau: une enfance dakaroise (Nouvelles Éditions Africaines, 2007), and, a little more dated but certainly still topical, Fatou Keïta's Rebelle (Présence Africaine, 1998).
